Samsung Receives Certification Thanks to OLED Screen "Unbreakable"
Samsung Receives Certification Due to "Unbreakable" OLED Screen - Flexible OLED display has been around for the past few years, but its implementation on consumer devices has so far been limited to placing flexible panels behind a rigid protective glass. Samsung Display has just announced the next step: flexible OLED panels that have a transparent plastic cover installed, mimic the properties of the glass but retain the built-in screen flexibility. Without the need for glass, this screen has proven to be good enough to be certified by UL (formerly known as Underwriters Laboratories) for its durability.
Samsung, describing a new, insoluble panel, reported that it had withstood the UL military standard test of 26 consecutive drops from a height of 1.2 meters (close to 4 feet) and extreme temperatures as high as 71 degrees Celsius (159.8 ° F) and as low as -32 degrees Celsius (-25.6 ° F). The OLED screen "continues to function normally without damaging the front, side or edge," we were told, and Samsung even went further by doing a successful drop test of 1.8 meters (6 feet).

Clearly developed primarily for smartphones, this new flexible OLED panel will also be offered for use in other electronic devices such as portable game consoles, military devices, e-learning tablets, and in-car displays. Samsung Display has not offered a timeline to those of us who might be expecting the release of products with this supposedly unsolved OLED panel, and also have not announced the mass production of new components. So when the new screen that sounds interesting will be released soon, we may have to hold back our enthusiasm until it gets closer to its appearance on the actual device.
